auditori nuovi - Supervisory magistrates who traveled throughout the Venetian dominion, receiving appeals and judging the sentences of Venetian governors.
auditori vecchi - Intermediaries between courts of first instance in Venice and its lagoon, on the one hand, and appelIate tribunals, on the other.
avocaro di presonieri - Attorney for the accused before the Quarantia Criminal.
avocati pizoli - Young patricians attached to and allowed to plead before the major tribunals.
avogadori di comun - The three state attorneys, who participated in meetings of every important magistracy, having the power to suspend deliberations if legality was in question; maintained registers of nobility and citizenship; and assigned legal cases to one of the judicial magistracies.
baiIo - The permanent representative of the Venetian Republic to the sultan in Constantinople.
ballotini - Ballot-box clerks, who circulated through the Great Council with the ballot boxes into which each attending patrician placed his vote.

camerlengo - Treasurer accompanying a Venetian governor in subject lands, charged with collecting taxes and disbursing monies from the fist.
capi - Heads of magistracies, most often referring to the Council of Ten or the Quarantia.
capitanio - Military governor of a subject city.
Cartavere - Magistracy of three officials responsible for watching over state property. They also had jurisdiction over Jews.
Cinque Savi alia Mercanzia - A body established in 1506 to remedy the decline of commerce as a result of the great geographical discoveries by the Portuguese [Vasco da Gama].
Cinque Savi alia Pace - Magistracy of five officials responsible for coordinating public safety officials.
Collegio - De facto acted as the steering committee of the Senate. Sanudo usually refers to it as the Pien Collegio. It was comprising of the Signoria - the doge, the six ducal councilors, and the heads of the Quarantia plus the savi (five savi ai ordeni, five savi di Terraferma, and six savi di Consiglio). It was the top executive council with consultative, deliberative, and judicial functions - it prepared business for and introduced legislation into the Senate.
